Baby, it’s cold outside! Okay, so far the winter weather so far hasn’t been too horrible, but we’re sure it is probably on the way. We expect a lot of snow and we all know what that means – a lot of mud soon to follow. Winter is either a period of beautiful snow or muddy lawns due to snow melt. Today we want to talk about ways to keep your curb appeal pretty amazing during all phases of the winter.
Tidy Up – Keep it cleaned up as much as possible. We understand that no one wants to be doing lawn work in the mud, so do what you can on snowy days. It’s often nice to be outside doing things while there’s a nice fresh blanket of snow falling around you.
Clean the Gutters – Make sure the guttering stays clean throughout winter. A clean guttering system will help ward off those pesky ice dams that may cause damage to your guttering, roof, and attic. Call us if you have gutter damage that needs to be repaired or replaced before winter hits us full force.
Outdoor Lighting – Shorter days mean less natural light during the winter. We understand what it means to drive home from work at 5:00 or 6:00 in the evening and not be able to see to make your way up the walk and onto the porch. Landscape lighting will help a lot as long as it is not covered with snow. Consider tall lighting fixtures for winter or hanging fixtures from the garage, outdoor building, privacy fence, or porch.
Winter Decorations – Giant inflatable decorations may be a bit of an overkill, but classy, winter decorations can really make a difference in the way your home looks. Consider hanging a wintry wreath on the door, subtle lighting in the windows, or a small pile of firewood stacked neatly on the porch can add a lot of appeal.
Plants that withstand Cold Weather – Evergreen bushes, poinsettias, or other plants that withstand cold weather can really liven up the landscape. This type of plant looks amazing whether the snow is falling or melting.
Keeping it Safe – Maintain a safe lawn regardless of all other decorations that bring things to life. Prevent slip and fall accidents by removing snow and ice from the walk and steps as quickly as possible. Keep the driveway clear so you can easily drive your car into it and park without worry that someone will hit it if you have to leave it on the side of the street.
